FIW will assume the overall coordination of INNOVIP and lead the WP “Management and Coordination”. Furthermore, FIW will contribute to the WPs “Cover layers, edge design and functionalities” with its large experience in optimizing thermal bridges in all fields of the building industry, “Characterization” with its large scale testing facilities, “Demonstration” and “Dissemination”. A focus in the R&D department of FIW in the last years is accompanying the development of vacuum-insulation-panels (VIP) and advanced porous materials (APMs) for building applications. For project management and monitoring of dates and deliverables, FIW will be supported by BayFor (BYF), a well-know and experienced research management partner within Europe’s research landscape.

The panels will be produced at va-Q-tec’s production sites in Würzburg and Kölleda (Germany). va-Q-tec is an innovative highly-experienced manufacturer and supplier of vacuum insulation panel systems.   The company produces several hundred thousand square meters of vacuum insulation panels (VIPs) per year. Within INNOVIP, va-Q-tec will be leader in the “production” work package, developing new processes for the production of VIP in a new suitable shape for the building industry. Furthermore va-Q-tec will lead the Innovation Board, ensuring proper identification of potential ideas and products. For the further development of Perlite, va-Q-tec will closely collaborate with the Danish perlite producer Nordisk (NDK), a collaboration that was established in the recent EU FP 7 project VIP4ALL and proved to be successful.

Worldwide market leader Hanita Coatings from Israel will complement the consortium in the development and production of high-barrier flexible laminates. HAN holds the barrier world record of vacuum-metallised films and employs 190 people, exporting 95% of its sales all over the world. For the barrier laquer technology, thickness reduction of the EVOH films and for Roll-to-Roll lamination, HAN will closely cooperate with the research department at Fraunhofer IVV in Freising, a collaboration that has been proven to be fruitful in several European research projects (e.g. Nanoinsulate). Fraunhofer IVV will not only develop and examine the technologies for the envelopes, but also ensure the fitness for deconstruction that is essential for today’s developments in the building market. Reuse, recycling and sustainability aspects will be developed in parallel with the new foil technology, complemented for the LCC and LCA aspects by OBU.

Key activities of TECNAN within the INNOVIP project are related to cover layers, edge design and functionalities, through nanocoatings. TEC will support the work on upscaling the production of core nanopowders of NDK and VQT and ensure the safe implementation under the European Nano-Material Cluster. Additionally, the industrial know-how of TEC concerning market scope analysis, nanosafety issues, potential impact and commercialisation routes will provide a valuable asset for WP9 “Dissemination and Exploitation of the Results”. Formulation of the nano-materials used inside the cover layers and/or as coating will be done at partner LUR, creating the required functionalities, such as moisture control, VOC reduction and fire-proof properties. LUR will support LNE, ITE and FIW with the characterization and standardization of all aspects of nano-materials used in INNOVIP.

Soprema is one of the leading European producers of building products for roofing and has a fast growing business with insulating materials made from polyurethane products. SOP currently operates 46 manufacturing plants in the world for the production of PU and XPS insulating rigid panels, bituminous waterproofing membranes and other materials. The company employs about 5625 people and has 7 Research and Development centers. With its outstanding market penetration all over Europe, Soprema will be the key driver for the end-use implementation of this new product in final insulating complexes, therefore the consortium proposed Mr. Vincent Barraud as leader of the “Exploitation & Dissemination Board”. ITE will also ensure that the developments within INNOVIP are close to the needs of the South European markets.

British research Partner OBU will ensure the sustainability of the developments and cover the life cycle aspects. Furthermore the consortium can rely on OBU’s expertise as architects in planning and executing highly efficient new buildings (NZEB) and retrofits. OBU together with the innovative building and renovation company MOS enables the consortium to carry out all necessary planning and application steps to prove the market readiness of the INNOVIP product within the group.
