The organization is divided in four main divisions, namely “Insulation for Buildings”, “Technical insulation”, “Research and Development” and “Certification”.

FIW’s primary activities are defined by its core competences:

  • Insulating materials and elements for buildings
  • Technical insulation of industrial installations for a wide temperature range (-180°C to 900 °C)
  • Heat, cold and moisture protection and mechanical properties of materials
  • Energy efficiency of the opaque building envelope
  • Sustainability principles related to insulating materials and for the entire construction sector

The institute’s main clients are manufacturers of insulation materials, building materials and building components. Most of the Research Activities are carried out on behalf of the industry directly, without additional public funding.
